USATF Women’s 10 km Championship Features Veterans, Double Race Attempt by Scherf

USATF Release

BOSTON – USATF Running Circuit veteran Lindsey Scherf is attempting back-to-back races in two different time zones this week, culminating with USATF Women’s 10 km Championships in Boston. Immediately following the USATF 10 Mile Championship hosted by the Tufts Health Plan 10K on Sunday in Minneapolis, Lindsey will fly to Boston and race again just 24 hours later. Scherf placed eighth at the USATF 5 km Championships last month and won the USATF 15 km national title earlier this season.

The USATF Women’s 10 km Championship is the tenth and final stop on the 2016 USATF Running Circuit. Race videos, results, post-race interviews and photos will be available shortly after the race in cooperation with RunnerSpace.com. Join the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #USARC.

Joining the field is last year’s USATF Women’s 10 km Championship runner-up Emily Sisson. The Providence-based athlete has had recent success on the roads, placing second at both the USATF 20 km Championships and USATF 5 km Championships. She seeks her first USATF Running Circuit victory in Boston, having accumulated four runner-up finishes since 2014.

Another top contender is Laura Thweatt. It’s been a somewhat challenging year for Thweatt, but getting back to racing and leaving her mark on 2016 means she should challenge for at least a top three finish. She placed fifth at the Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field this summer in the 10,000m and is well versed over the race distance.

Two other top returnees, Rochelle Kanuho and Hannah Davidson, who placed fifth and sixth respectively in 2015, are ready to improve their finishes this year. Kanuho had a strong Olympic Trials, placing seventh in the 10,000m event and could very well challenge for a top three finish, too.

Sarah Pagano is another runner to watch. Pagano has shown her range the past few years on the USATF Running Circuit, always being competitive no matter the distance. Having finished fourth at the USATF 5 km Championships last month, keep an eye on the Boston-based runner, as she looks to use the hometown crowd to her advantage.

Rounding out the top contenders is multi-time Olympian Jen Rhines, Cally Macumber - who placed third at the USATF Cross Country Championships earlier in the year - as well as Lauren Paquette, who has had a breakout season in 2016.
