Catching Up With Shadrack Biwott - .US Champs Edition

Comments

It’s been one amazing season for Shadrack Biwott. A runner-up performance at the USA 20 km Championships and third place finishes at the USA Half Marathon, USA 10 km and USA Marathon Championships, it’s safe to say the former University of Oregon All-American can chalk up 2013 as a big success.

Currently sitting in second place in the USARC standings, a mere eight points behind leader Matt Tegenkamp, Biwott looks to close out his season with a win and an overall series win at the .US National Road Racing Championships Sunday in Alexandria, Virginia.

We caught up with Biwott this week as he preps to race one last time this season, discussing his season, his recovery from the USA Marathon Championships in October and his mindset heading into Sunday’s race.

Runnerspace (RS): This weekend is your final USARC race of the season. What was this season like for you? What are your feelings heading into Sunday's competition?

Shadrack Biwott (SB): Man, I have had a great season. I have placed in top three in most of the races I have done. I am very excited about this weekend race since it's the final race of the year and triple points are on the line.

RS: You're sitting in second in the USARC standings, currently. Will you focus in on standings leader Matt Tegenkamp early on or will you take a different approach?

SB: Nobody knows how the race will play out. So, I will have to do whatever I have to do to position myself in the best position possible to run well. There are a lot of great athletes in this race. I am sure that every one wants to do well.

RS: You ran great in Minnesota last month at the USA Marathon Championships. How was your recovery coming back from the marathon distance?

SB: Surprisingly I was able to recover quickly. I took a few days of easy running then I started training again and my body responded well.

RS: What type of workouts have you been putting in as of late?

SB: My coach and I look at the whole program. There is no one session that I would say is better than the other session. We have been able to do all the sessions that will help me run well.
