Logan Jolly, an ASICS professional athlete along with an NCAA Division 1 indoor distance medley relay champion and a collegiate record holder in the 4x1,500-meter relay during her career at Arkansas, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing April 28 in the elite women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 113th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Jolly, 24, is scheduled to compete in a field that includes fellow NCAA steeplechase All-Americans from last year's final in Colorado graduate Madie Boreman, former New Mexico standout Adva Cohen of Israel and former Auburn star Joyce Kimeli of Kenya. She explains how significant it is to be competing at Drake Relays the same year that Arkansas coach Lance Harter is being inducted April 27 into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame. Jolly reflects on achieving an indoor mile personal-best 4:33.94 on Feb. 14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, as well as running a lifetime-best 15:29.08 in the 5.000 on April 14 at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University. She shares her excitement to return to the steeplechase for the first time since advancing to the final of the USATF Outdoor Championships in June, and how much confidence was gained last year by clocking a personal-best 9:34.76 in the NCAA Division 1 final at Hayward Field. Jolly, who began her career at Clemson, speaks about how meaningful it is to be able to stay with her husband Robert and continue to train in Fayetteville, and to continue to receive the guidance of coach Harter and have him as a mentor as a first-year professional athlete. She also analyzes how significant it has been to have the support of ASICS and to be able to represent the brand and to continue to compete as a professional athlete. Jolly looks forward and talks about the desire to run multiple steeplechase races in preparation for the USATF Outdoor Championships and her improvement since last year. She also revisits Arkansas winning both the men's and women's team titles March 10-11 at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships in New Mexico, along with reflecting on contributing to the 4x1,500 collegiate record of 16;53.87 with Isabel Van Camp, Lauren Gregory and Krissy Gear last year at Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
