Huddle Continues Win Streak at USATF Women's 10 km Championship

USATF Press Release

BOSTON – With her fourth straight USATF Running Circuit victory of 2015 Monday at the USATF Women’s 10 km Championshis, Molly Huddle not only continued her dominance on the roads, but overtook Brianne Nelson as the leader in the USATF Running Circuit standings.

The USATF Women’s 10 km Championship, hosted by the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women in Boston, are the second-to-last stop on the 2015 USATF Running Circuit. The top 15 finishers at each race on the circuit qualify to compete in the 2015 .US National 12K, which takes place November 15 in Alexandria, Virginia.

From the start, Huddle took control of the race early, stringing out the lead pack with training partner Emily Sisson, Olympian Kim Conley and Nelson trailing. Behind the front running quartet, a strong pack emerged early, working together and pushing for a top five finish.

Huddle’s lead grew consistently throughout the race, building a 20 second lead by the 5 km half way mark, passing in 15:37. Huddle continued to build her lead each mile, running in control and consistent, eventually crossing the line well ahead of second place in 31:21.

Behind Huddle, teammate Sisson pulled away from her nearest competition after the first two miles, similarly building a lead much of the race, coming in a strong second in 32:18.

Conley and Nelson battled much of the race, taking turns leading and eyeing a top three finish. While Conley initially led, she fell behind Nelson for the middle portion of the race, before jumping back into the lead and driving home to nab third in 32:38, nine seconds ahead of Nelson, who claimed fourth in 32:47.

Running arguably her strongest race of the year, Rochelle Kanuho led the chase pack and broke away in the final stages of the race to earn a top five finish in 33:04, just ahead of Sisson’s former Providence College teammate Hannah Davidson, who placed sixth overall in 33:06. USATF Running Circuit veteran Alisha Williams held on strong to place seventh in 33:08.

Rounding out the top ten, former Boston University All-American Katie Matthews ran to an eighth place finish a step behind Williams in 33:09. Kanuho’s teammate Kellyn Taylor, who was in the main chase pack much of the race, finished ninth overall in 33:14, while Colorado-based Mattie Suver placed tenth overall in 33:34.

Huddle’s victory moves her into first place in the USATF Running Circuit standings with 75 points, ahead of second place Nelson and her 66 total points. Reigning USATF cross country champion Laura Thweatt remains third with 51 points.

The eleventh and final stop on the USATF Running Circuit takes place Sunday, November 15 in Alexandria, Virginia, as the .US National 12K brings together the nation’s best distance runners competing for $100,000 in prize money and final points in the USATF Running Circuit standings.
